Planning well is half the battle, especially when it comes to roof replacements. Having your roof replaced is a major undertaking. So, even before the first shingle gets nailed down, you want to make sure that all your bases are covered.

3 Big Planning Mistakes To Avoid When Replacing Your Roof

Here are the three biggest mistakes you should take care not to make when it comes to planning a roof replacement.

1. Not Going Through Your Estimate

A roofing estimate should include all the necessary information regarding the scope of work. It should contain a detailed list of all the materials that are going to be used as well as how much everything is going to cost. Not going through the estimate is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when it comes to planning for a roof. Be sure to go over a written estimate carefully, and bring up any concerns with your roofer before the work actually begins.

2. Not Vetting Your Roofer

Even if it were an emergency replacement, you should still take the time to vet your roofing company. Before signing on the dotted line, you should check if your contractors are local so that is easier for you to get a hold of them in case there are issues after the installation. Good exterior home contractors should also show you references, certifications and their qualifications without you having to ask.

3. Paying in Full Before the Work Begins

Most roofing contractors will not ask for full payment before the project even begins. A typical payment scheme will usually involve a down payment to cover the cost of materials, which is then followed by installments, usually during project milestones. The final payment is typically paid once the replacement is completed, and you are satisfied with the quality of the work.
